Pipette
Used to transfer fixed quantities of liquid accurately; bulbs, teats, and suction pumps are attached when poisonous liquids are used.
Burette
Used to measure, transfer, and dispense variable quantities of liquid accurately.
Graduated measuring cylinder
Used to measure variable quantities of liquid, though less accurately than a pipette or burette.
Erlenmeyer flasks
Used to hold liquids; chemical reactions are often carried out in these.
Beaker
Used to hold and dispense liquids, and also to hold solid substances.
Test Tubes
Used to hold small quantities of substances for chemical reactions, and are also used when heating substances.
Test tube tongs
Used to hold test tubes above an open flame during chemical reactions to prevent burns.
Funnel
Used to transfer liquids from large necked containers into narrow necked containers; some types are adapted for separating liquids.
Bunsen burner
Used to provide direct heat of different intensities for chemical reactions and physical changes.
Retort stands, clamps and tripods
Retort stands hold apparatus in place, clamps attach parts to the retort stand, and tripods support glassware above a flame.
Thermometer
Used to measure temperature changes, containing mercury or alcohol, and measure temperature using the Celsius scale.
Scales and spring balances
Scales/electronic balances measure the quantity of a substance, while spring balances measure force.
Gas jar
Used for the collection of gases and for reactions of substances with gas already present.
