Adult Practice Settings

Acute Settings

• Within hospital

• Quick and functional

• Addressing needs to move on to another setting

Inpatient or Acute Rehab

• Short stay rehab

• Intense services; 5-6 days a week of therapy at 3 hrs. a day

• Significant injury or trauma

• Can be considered a speciality hopsital

• Return to functional independence

Subacute Rehab/SNF

• Less intense rehab

• Option when inpatient is not feasible

• 5x a week; 30-60 mins. of treatment per discipline

• Are NOT safe to be home

• Can not tolerate rehab of inpatient

• Goal to return patient to home

Long Term Care (SNF)

• Therapy is provided to regain skills or abilities

• 3-5x a week; 30-60 min sessions

• Working in their home environment

Home Health

• Therapy provided within a person’s home

• 1-2x a week, 30-60 min a visit

• These patients can iive at home, either independently or with non “skilled” care

• TO receive home care a patient must be “homebound” → they cannot leave their home without considerable or taxing effort

Outpatient Hand Therapy

• Variety of orthopedic hand conditions: surgery, fracture, injury, arthritis

• Specialized treatment and therapist- CHT

• Biomechanical in nature

Neuro Outpatient Therapy

• CVA, Brain injury, SCI,Parkinson’s, MS etc

• Fine and gross motor skills focused on coordination

• Longer time frame for treatment

Workplace Ergonomics

• Designing and creating a functional workplace environment

• Enhances productivity through environmental arrangement

• Decreased chance for injury by design and training

• Can be associated with work hardening programs
