Acetaminophen
Brand names: Tylenol and Ofirmev (IV form)
MOA:
mild pain relief and fever reduction
Complications:
Acute toxicity —> liver damage (if liver damage causes bleeding out)
Contraindications:
if pt has sever liver or kidney impairment
chronic alcohol use
malnutrition
Interactions:
alcohol
warfarin (increases risk for bleeding)
ANY MEDS
Nursing Implications:
Antidote for overdose: acetylcysteine (Mucomyst)
dotn take longer than 10 days
do not over medicate

s/s of bleeding
Evaluation
revists pt pain before and after med goven
Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS)

Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin)
Naproxen (Aleve)
