Position + Directional Terms
Used to orient and explain where a specific structure is compared to another

Body Planes + Cavities
Imaginary line that goes through a section of the body in order to study the internal structure + cavities

Regional Terms
Landmarks used to refer to specific areas of the body

Superior
Towards the head

Inferior
Away from the head

Ventral (Anterior)
Towards the front of the body

Dorsal (Posterior)
Back of the body

Medial
Towards the midline of the body

Lateral
Towards the outside of the body

Intermediate
Between a medial + lateral structure

Proximal
Close to the orgin of the body

Distal
Farther from the orgin of the body

Superfical
Towards the surface of the body

Deep
Away from the surface of body

Median
Drawing line through body. (Split through nose, in the middle, between eyes, through belly button.) Middle of body vertical

Frontal
Split from ear to ear and downwards. You can see all your organs

Transverse
Cutting through the midsection, separates lower half from upper half

Sagital
Lines like median, but can be from any spot. Cutting straight down from anywhere.

Dorsal Cavity
Cranial cavity, spinal cavity, towards back

Ventral Cavity
Thoracic cavity (torso), abdominal pelvic cavity

Anterior body inferior to ribs
