Biodiversity
Refers to the variety of living organisms found on Earth, including diversity across genes, species, and ecosystems.

Classification Scheme
A system used to organize organisms into groups based on their similarities and differences.
Reasons for Classifying Organisms
Objectives of scientists that include making organisms easier to identify, organizing the diversity of life, studying similarities and differences, understanding evolutionary relationships, and communicating using standardized names.
Aristotle's System of Classification
One of the earliest attempts to classify living things, which categorized animals according to their observable characteristics and movement (flying, swimming, walking) rather than evolutionary relationships.
Animals that fly (Aristotle's System)
A classification group defined by Aristotle based on movement that included birds, bats, and insects.
Animals that swim (Aristotle's System)
A classification group defined by Aristotle based on movement that included fish and aquatic animals.
Animals that walk (Aristotle's System)
A classification group defined by Aristotle based on movement that included mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
