Anaphora
The deliberate repetition of the successive clause, phrase, or sentence for artistic effect.
Allusion
A reference in a work of literature to something outside the work, especially to a well-known historical or literary event, person, or work.
Ellipsis
The deliberate omission of a word or phrase from prose done for effect by the author.
Metonymy
The use of a word or phrase to stand in for something else which it is often associated.
Asyndeton
A list of items which omits conjunctions; often used to speed up the pace or to add a sense of urgency.
Polysyndeton
A list of items which are all separated by conjunctions; often used to slow down the pace or to add an authoritative tone.
