Notochordal Process
A tube that extends from the primitive node to the precordial plate, important in early embryonic development.
Neuroenteric Canal
A temporary channel that allows communication between the amniotic cavity and the yolk sac, formed during notochordal development.
Definitive Notochord
The solid rod structure formed from the notochordal plate after it has detached from the endoderm and proliferated.
Nucleus Pulposus
The jelly-like material found in the center of intervertebral discs, derived from remnants of the notochord.
Gastrulation
The process that transforms the bilaminar disc into a trilaminar disc by forming the three germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm.
Ectoderm
The outer layer of the trilaminar disc, which will develop into skin and nervous tissue.
Mesoderm
The middle layer of the trilaminar disc, responsible for forming muscles, bones, and the circulatory system.
Endoderm
The innermost layer of the trilaminar disc, which will form the gastrointestinal tract and related structures.
Primitive Node
The structure at the anterior end of the primitive streak, where the notochordal process begins.
Precordial Plate
The area at the anterior end of the embryo that is precursory to the head and neck structures.
