Electronegativity
The measure of an atom's ability to attract electrons.
Covalent Bond
A bond in which electrons are shared between two nonmetals.
Polar Covalent Bond
A bond in which electronegativity is present and electrons are unequally shared.
Nonpolar Covalent Bond
A bond in which there is no electronegativity and electrons are shared equally.
Single Bond
A bond where 2 electrons are shared.
Double Bond
A bond where 4 electrons are shared.
Triple Bond
A bond where 6 electrons are shared.
Lewis Structures
Diagrams that illustrate the formation of covalent bonds.
Covalent Compound
A compound resulting from the bond of two nonmetals.
Molecule
A neutral group of atoms held together by covalent bonds.
Diatomic Elements
Elements that naturally occur as molecules consisting of two atoms of the same element.
