ICT
Information and Communication Technology; the use of electronic devices and technologies to create, collect, store, process, communicate, and share information.
Information
Meaningful knowledge or facts obtained about something.
Communication
The process of sending and receiving information between people or devices.
Computer
An electronic device that receives data, processes it, stores it, and produces information.
Data
Raw facts that have not yet been processed.
Monitor
An output device with a screen that displays information from the computer, such as text, pictures, videos, and menus.
Keyboard
An input device containing keys used to enter letters, numbers, text, and commands into a computer.
Mouse
A pointing input device used to control the pointer on a computer screen.
System Unit
A component of a computer system containing important electronic components that help process information.
Speakers
An output device that produces sound from a computer.
Printer
An output device that produces information from the computer onto paper.
Computer Lab Safety
Following rules and practices that protect learners, teachers, computers, and other equipment in a computer laboratory.
Left Click
Pressing the left mouse button once, commonly used to select an object, menu, or place the cursor.
Right Click
Pressing the right mouse button once to open a shortcut or context menu containing additional options.
Double Click
Pressing the left mouse button twice quickly, commonly used to open files, folders, or programs.
Dragging
Holding down the mouse button while moving the mouse across a surface.
Drag and Drop
Moving an object from one location to another on a screen using the mouse.
Spacebar
The long key at the bottom of the keyboard used to create spaces between words.
Enter Key
A keyboard key used to start a new line when typing, confirm commands, or select options.
Backspace Key
A keyboard key that removes characters to the left of the cursor.
Delete Key
A keyboard key that removes characters to the right of the cursor.
Shift Key
A keyboard key used to type capital letters and access secondary symbols shown on keys.
Arrow Keys
The four main keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) used to move the cursor or selection on a screen.
Paint
A computer application used to create and edit simple pictures and drawings.
Digital Picture
An image created, stored, or displayed using a computer or other electronic device.
File
A collection of information stored on a computer, such as pictures, documents, music, or videos.
Folder
A location on a computer used to organize and store files.
Word Processing
The use of a computer application to create, edit, save, and print text documents.
Text Formatting
Changing the appearance of text to make it clearer and more attractive.
Font
The specific design or style of written characters.
Bold
A formatting option that makes text darker and thicker for emphasis or headings.
Italic
A formatting option that makes text slant to one side.
Underline
A formatting option that places a line underneath text.
Computer Care
Taking proper steps to protect a computer from damage and keep it working properly.
Desktop Computer
A computer designed to stay in one place, typically featuring separate monitor, keyboard, mouse, and system unit components.
Laptop Computer
A foldable, portable computer with an integrated screen, keyboard, touchpad, and battery.
Tablet
A portable computer controlled primarily by touching its screen.
Palmtop
A very small portable computer designed to fit in or be used in the palm of the hand.
Touch Typing
A method of typing using specific assigned fingers for different keys without looking at the keyboard.
Home Row
The middle row of keys on a keyboard where fingers rest, specifically A, S, D, F for the left hand and J, K, L, ; for the right hand.
Save
A command that stores changes made to an existing document or file on a computer.
Save As
A command that allows a user to save a document copy with a different name, location, or file format.
Cut
An editing operation that removes selected content from its original position and places it temporarily on the clipboard using Ctrl + X.
Copy
An editing operation that creates a duplicate of selected content on the clipboard using Ctrl + C.
Paste
An editing operation that inserts copied or cut content into a specified location using Ctrl + V.
Undo
An editing operation that reverses the most recent action using Ctrl + Z.
Redo
An editing operation that restores an action that was previously undone using Ctrl + Y.
Font Family
The typeface design style of characters, such as Arial, Times New Roman, or Comic Sans.
Font Size
A setting that controls how large or small text appears on screen or paper.
Highlighting
Placing a colored background behind selected text to emphasize key information.
Text Alignment
The positioning of text relative to page margins, including Left, Centre, Right, and Justified alignment.
Bullets
List markers used when the order of listed items does not matter.
Numbering
List markers used when items follow a specific sequential or step-by-step order.
Text Wrapping
A setting that determines how document text is arranged around an inserted image.
Table
An arrangement of information organized in horizontal rows and vertical columns made up of cells.
Row
A horizontal line of cells or entries in a table.
Column
A vertical line of cells or entries in a table.
Page Border
A decorative line or frame placed around the perimeter of a page.
Header
Information placed within the top margin of a document page.
File Management
The process of organizing, storing, locating, and maintaining files and folders on a computer.
Sub-folder
A folder created inside another folder to build an organized folder structure.
