Salem Witch Trials
Death of children and animals were blamed on women participating in evil magic. Stopped after 19 women were tried, convicted, and executed for being witches by colonists in Salem Massachusetts.
What started the Pequot War
In 1636, the Puritans accused the Pequots of killing an English trader. Even though they denied it, war still broke out and the Indian foes of the Pequots joined the Puritans. They attacked each others villages (puritans vs. Pequots)
What was the Treaty of Hartford
Gave the Puritans all the Pequots land after they were defeated in 1638. Puritans were mandated to leave & live among other Indian groups
What was King Phillips war
in 1675, Indians burned 12 puritans towns and colonists burned Indian crops in retaliton. It was a result of Puritian-Indian tensions
What caused King Phillips war
the colonists wrongly believed that Chief Metacom led the rebelling Indians. (the truth was that they fought separately and were fed up by puritan treatment.)
