Running phases
-initial contact
-load response
-propulsion
-float
-midswing
-terminal swing
What to look for in running
-slight fwd trunk lean
-tibia near perpendicular to ground at IC (lands under COG)
-neutral trunk with pelvis, hip, knee and ankle aligned in frontal
-good shock absorption
Ideal shock absorption at end of LR
-7-10 degrees fwd trunk lean
-30 deg of hip flexion
-40 deg of knee flexion
Other common running injuries
-head/spine: dysfunction, facet syndrome, costovertebral pain
-SIJ: dysfunction
-hip: lateral hip pain, proximal hs tendinopathy
-knee: patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS), ITB syndrome, medial knee pain
-ankle: achilles tendinopathy,stress fx/medial compartment synndrome/shin splints
-foot: plantar fasciitis, flexor hallucis longus tendinopathy
Back handspring what to look out for
-good push off with large posterior transfer of COM
-smooth ext along entire spine and hips from "push off" to "handstand" phases
-knees extended from foot off to just before foot contact
-short timeframe of hand contact on ground (good UE power due to good LE push off)
other common gymnastics injuries
-head/spine: concussions, instability (spondylolisthesis)
-SIJ: dysfunction
-hip: labral tears, pincer/cam impingement
-knee: PFPS, ITB syndrome, medial knee pain, PCL tear
-ankle: achilles tendinopathy, chronic ankle sprains, stress fx
-foot: fx
-shoulder: labral tears, dislocations
-elbow/wrist: dislocations, fx, chronic wrist sprains
RED-S
-relative energy deficiency in sport
-have impact on MSK, endocrine, bone, psych
