NCD
Short for non-communicable diseases; chronic, long-lasting diseases that are not transmitted from person to person.
Non-communicable diseases characteristics
Characterized by long duration, slow progression, being not infectious, and having long term health impacts.
NCD causal factors
Determined by genetic factors, environmental factors, and behavioral factors.
Major types of NCDs
Includes Cardiovascular diseases, Cancers, Chronic Respiratory diseases, and Diabetes.
Cardiovascular diseases
NCDs that affect the heart and blood vessels, often manifesting as heart attacks and strokes.
Cancers
A major type of NCD involving various tumor types affecting multiple organs.
Chronic Respiratory diseases
Long-term respiratory conditions such as Asthma and COPD.
Diabetes
A group of NCDs (type 1 and 2) that require ongoing lifestyle management.
Chronic nature of NCDs
Requires ongoing management and can affect all people of all ages and backgrounds.
