Political Parties

Political Party

An organization that coordinates candidates to compete in a particular country’s elections. Members normally have similar beliefs and goals.

Ideology

A set of beliefs or ideals on which people, parties, or countries base their actions.

Replublican

Political party that favors traditional social values, lower taxes, more strict immigration regulations, less strict regulations on gun control.

Democrat

Political party that favors traditional social equality, progressive tax system, less strict regulations on immigration.

Third Party

A term used for political parties other than the Republican and Democratic parties- have less influence than 2 major parties.

Declaration of Independence

A document that allows America thirteen colonies have independent from the British rules.

Northwest Ordinance

Government was established for the Northwest territories which created a process for admitting new states to the Union.

Constitution of the US

The supreme law set up the national government which divides power into three branches.

Bill of rights

First ten Amendments protects basic individual liberties like freedom of speech, religion, etc.

Federalists

Individual states share power with a central national government.

Anti-Federalists

Stronger national government fought against the ratification of the constitution and wanted the bill of rights to be included.
