Human Body Bones
The human body has 206 bones divided into the axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton.
Lacrimal Bone
A paired facial bone that supports the structures of the lacrimal apparatus, which secretes tears.
Mandible
The largest and strongest bone in the facial skeleton, located in the lower jaw.
Parietal Bone
A bone that forms the sides and roof of the cranium, attached to the musculus temporalis used for chewing.
Sphenoid Bone
One of the eight bones that make up the cranium, named after the Greek word sphenoeides, meaning wedge-shaped.
Vertebra
A spinal bone with a cylindrical body in front and a bony ring in the back.
Ethmoid Bone
A small bone in the skull that separates the nasal cavity from the brain.
Hyoid Bone
A bone that lies below the mandible in the front of the neck, acting as a movable base for the tongue.
Maxilla
The largest facial bone, which holds the upper teeth, the roof of the mouth, and the floor and lateral walls of the nasal cavity.
