Sleep
Essential for health and healing; inadequate sleep affects almost every system in the body.
Circadian Rhythm
Internal process that controls the sleep-wake cycle, occurring approximately every 24 hours.
Sleep-Wake Homeostasis
Regulates sleep levels according to sleep deprivation experienced by a client.
Brain Stem
Controls the shift between wake and sleep; influences rapid eye movement (REM).
Stages of Sleep
Phases of sleep categorized into multiple stages: Stage 1 (light sleep), Stage 2 (deeper sleep), Stage 3 (deepest sleep), and Stage 4 (REM).
Stage 3 Sleep
Deepest sleep consisting of delta brain waves; important for immune system strengthening and tissue repair.
Sleep Patterns in Adults
