What is the overarching behavioral expectation in the lab, and what is of the utmost importance in nursing?

Positive, professional, and respectful behavior is expected (students may be asked to leave otherwise). Safety is of the utmost importance; use equipment correctly in a safe, appropriate manner.

How should peer evaluations be conducted in the lab?

Peer evaluations should be honest, positive, constructive, and intended to improve skill performance, holding each other accountable.

How should students approach learning skills and asking questions in the lab?

Don't be afraid to ask for help when a concept or skill isn't understood. Be intentional when practicing—do not goof off or waste time.

What are the rules regarding noise, personal areas, and audio devices in the lab?

Act in a manner that does not disturb academic activities, respect work areas of lab personnel, and use headphones when listening to instructor-approved audio devices. No sleeping is allowed in the lab.

What are the rules concerning work areas and cellphones?

All work/practice areas must be left in pristine condition before leaving. No personal cellphone use (calls, texting, pictures, browsing) is permitted; cellphones must be left in bookbags.

How should manikins be treated in the lab?

Manikins are to be treated as patients. Do not lift them out of bed without permission, and notify lab personnel if equipment or manikins are not working properly.

What are the policies for eating, drinking, and chewing gum in the lab?

Eating is prohibited. Only beverages with lids are allowed, and they must remain on center tables for the duration of lab time. No gum is permitted.

Who is permitted in the lab, and how is extra access granted?

No non-nursing majors are allowed (inter-disciplinary use requires approval from the Lab Coordinator). Using the learning lab outside scheduled class times also requires approval from the Lab Coordinator.

What types of assignments might be given, and how should they be approached?

Assignments include dosage calculation practice, case studies, concept maps, and care plans. Approach them intentionally as tools to apply and connect what is learned in various courses.

What are the rules regarding smart watches, headphones, and undergarments/shirts?

No smart watches or headphones (unless specified by the professor). Wear a T-shirt under sweatshirts.

What are the specific requirements and restrictions for pants, shorts, and tops?

When able, wear shorts, bring a pair to change into, or wear pants that easily roll up to the knees. Do not wear tops that expose the midriff or low-cut tops.

What are the rules for footwear and clothing text?

No open-toed shoes (unless specified OK by the instructor). No vulgar or offensive language is allowed on any clothing.

What are the specific requirements for watches, hair, and nails?

Purchase a watch with a second hand ($10 and under options available on Amazon). Pull hair back into a ponytail if able (for infection control). Avoid nail polish and fake nails; nails should be clean and kept.
