A person born on the Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal) who lived in Latin America.

CREOLES/CRIOLLOS

A person born in Latin America to parents who are peninsulares.

CAUDILLOS

Military dictators who took power after the Latin American revolutions; used violence and charisma to gain and maintain power.

MONROE DOCTRINE

US policy that warned European nations that further colonization or control of the Western hemisphere was off-limits to Europe.
