Superior
Anatomical term meaning toward your cap or upper body (e.g., head is superior to chest).
Inferior
Anatomical term meaning toward your cleats or lower body (e.g., knees are inferior to hips).
Anterior
Anatomical term meaning toward the front of your body or team jersey logo (e.g., chest/sternum is anterior to spine).
Posterior
Anatomical term meaning toward the back of your body or jersey number (e.g., shoulder blades are posterior to ribs).
Medial
Anatomical term meaning toward the center or middle of your body/uniform (e.g., nose is medial to eyes).
Lateral
Anatomical term meaning moving away from your center toward either side / arms out (e.g., arms are lateral to chest).
Proximal
Anatomical term meaning closer to where the limb joins your body (e.g., elbow is proximal to wrist).
Distal
Anatomical term meaning farther toward your glove/hand and away from where the limb joins your body (e.g., wrist is distal to elbow).
Intermediate
Anatomical term meaning located between two positions (e.g., knee is intermediate between hip and ankle).
Humerus
The upper arm bone.
Radius
The forearm bone located on the thumb side when holding a baseball with palm facing forward.
Ulna
The forearm bone located on the pinky side when holding a baseball with palm facing forward.
Carpals
Bones that form the wrist.
Metacarpals
Bones that form the hand.
Phalanges
Bones that form the fingers (glove hand) or toes (cleat foot).
Clavicle
The collarbone.
Scapula
The shoulder blade, located on the posterior side of the body.
Sternum
Bone located at the middle/front (anterior) of the chest.
Ribs
Bones forming the rib cage.
Vertebrae
Bones that form the spine.
Femur
The thigh bone of the upper leg.
Patella
The kneecap.
Tibia
The thick, big shin bone of the lower leg.
Fibula
The fine, skinny outside bone of the lower leg.
Tarsals
Bones forming the ankle/rear foot.
Metatarsals
Bones forming the middle of the foot.
Cervical Vertebrae
The top section of the spine consisting of 7 vertebrae (C7).
Thoracic Vertebrae
The middle section of the spine consisting of 12 vertebrae (T12).
Lumbar Vertebrae
The lower section of the spine consisting of 5 vertebrae (L5).
Sacrum
Spine section following the lumbar vertebrae (L5) and leading down to the coccyx.
Coccyx
The lowest terminal section of the spine located directly after the sacrum.
