why don’t we have single chained micelle’s in membrane?
Because single chains make micelle’s
What is a micelle
Single chain lipids that order themselves into a shell when swquestered from water
What makes a vesicle?
A lipid bilayer with an aqueous cavity
Why do micelles form
Increase entropy
Glycerophospholipids
Based on glycerol and makes up lipid bilayer
What is glycerol’s structure?

What double bonds are present in the membrane that are glycerol?
Cis
What is the head group at the end of glycerol?
A phosphate a group with OH usually but can be any of these

Serine is attached where?
At the O chain hydroxyl on a glycerol

What are sterols
They modulate fluidity. Cholesterol.

Peripheral proteins
only stick to surface or head groups. have an affinity for that surface

Peripheral protein covalently linked to lipids are different because
They have a long chain fatty acid that tethers it to the membrane instead of jsut having an affinity

Integral protein
Span the entire membrane inside out

Pores
Hollow space that are either permanently opened or closed and let things through the membrane
