insert dorsal then cranial to second knuckle
pass catheter under finger, guiding down into urethra
do not let it go past your finger or it is still in vagina
advance catheter until urine is observed- approx 6-12 cm
attach sterile syringe- discard first 2-3 mls (bacteria contamination)
attach a second syringe and collect sample (6mls)
