What is OCD?

What are compulsions?
Repetitive, time consuming behaviour. Adhered obsessively by the person with OCD
Why are compulsions performed?
To reduce anxiety and manage the anxiety produced by obsessions
Avoidance
Someone with OCD may try to avoid situations that may trigger their obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviour
What are the emotional characteristics?

OCD is often accompanied by depression. Anxiety can be accompanied by low mood and lack of enjoyment in activities. Compulsive behaviour brings temporary relief

Aware their anxiety, obsessions and compulsions aren’t rational. People with OCD experience horrible thoughts that might occur if their anxiety is justified. Tend to hypervigilant, focus on potential hazards
