Pinna or auricle
This is the outside part of the ear
External auditory canal
This is the tube that connects the outer ear to the inside or middle ear.
Tympanic membrane (eardrum)
divides the external ear from the middle ear.
Ossicles
Three small bones that are connected and transmit the sound waves to the inner ear.
Eustachian tube
A canal that links the middle ear with the back of the nose. It helps to equalize the pressure in the middle ear.
Cochlea
Contains nerves for hearing
Vestibule and Semicircular canal
Contains receptor for balance
Pitch
it is associated with high or low quality of a sound with frequency. The higher the pitch, the higher the frequency.
Intensity (amplitude)
(measured by decibels) describes the physical qualities of the sound stimulus and is OBJECTIVE in nature
Decibels .
Measure sound intensity (amplitude)
Frequency
reported in Hertz (Hz), measures the number of sound vibrations in one second
Amplitude
Reported on the decibel (dB) scale, measures its pressure or forcefulness. The more of it a sound has, the louder it is.
Loudness
the human perception of the stimulus. It is the sensory characteristics of sounds produced by the amplitude (intensity) of sound waves. It varies from one person to another. Thus, considered to be SUBJECTIVE.
