Copper sulfate
Most common mineral supplement offered to grazing cattle in Florida due to low levels normally found in soil
Dicalcium phosphate
Calcium and phosphorus source for all livestock species
Niacin
Also known as Vitamin B3, primarily fed to monogastrics in a vitamin premix
Riboflavin
Also known as Vitamin B2, primarily fed to monogastrics in a vitamin premix
Bakery waste
Byproduct of bakery industry, primarily fed to cattle
Citrus pulp
Byproduct of orange juice production, high in fiber and fed to cattle
Molasses
Byproduct of sugar production, concentrate that improves palatability, often fed to young or made available in lick tubs
Cotton seed meal
Byproduct of cotton production. Protein supplement fed to cattle. Antinutrient called gossypol makes it a poor choice to feed to monogastrics
Soybean meal
Byproduct of soy oil production. The most common protein supplement fed to all livestock species
Limestone
Calcium source (calcium carbonate) fed to all livestock species
Soybean oil
Energy source that also reduces dust in a diet.
Rye silage
Chopped and fermented whole rye plant, primarily fed to cattle and sheep
Alfalfa
Higher protein forage fed to cattle and horses
Urea
Non protein nitrogen source only fed to cattle
Cobalt carbonate
Mineral supplement provided when cobalt is not available from other feedstuffs, usually to cattle and sheep
Salt
Mineral that may be incorporated into a ration, made available as a block, or put in a shaker on the table
Oystershells
Fed to poultry as grit to aid in digestion in their crop
Tallow
Byproduct of meat production, energy source that has to be melted before incorporation into the diet
Corn
Most common energy concentrate fed to all livestock species
Milo
Also known as grain sorgum, concentrate fed to all livestock species
Oats
A modest energy, higher fiber concentrate frequently fed to horses, but also suitable for all livestock species.
Silage
Green forage such as the whole corn plant that is chopped then fermented in an anaerobic bag, bunker, or silo.
Corn stalk
Whole corn plant that remains after removal of the corn kernels. Low energy forage
Brewers grain
Byproduct of beer production. It is high in fiber and reasonably high in protein. It is fed to cattle instead of being sent to a landfill.
Distiller's grains
Byproduct of ethanol production. High in fat and protein making it a good alternative to corn in cattle feed
Sunflower meal
Byproduct of sunflower oil production. Protein source fed primarily to cattle.
Corn gluten meal
Byproduct of corn starch/corn syrup production. Protein supplement fed to all livestock species
Canola meal
Byproduct of canola oil production, high in protein and fed to all species
Fish meal
High quality protein source fed to all livestock species, particularly monogastrics but can result in a fishy smelling fat.
Feather meal
A poor-quality protein supplement made from ground feathers. It is best used in cattle feeds due to its indigestibility to monogastrics.
Blood meal
A high-quality protein supplement that is a byproduct of meat production. It is primarily fed to (young) pigs and chickens.
Meat and bone meal
Byproduct of the meat industry, protein supplement that can be fed to monogastrics
Lysine
The first limiting amino acid in swine, that can also be limiting in chickens.
