Non-normative Events

Unpredictable or atypical life events, such as being diagnosed with a childhood disease or experiencing the loss of a parent at a young age.

Cohort

The age group with which an individual travels through life.

Young-Old

Individuals in their $60\text{s}$ to $70\text{s}$.

Old-Old

Individuals aged $80$ and over, who are more likely to have disabilities.

American Life Expectancy Shift

An increase in life expectancy of $30\text{ years}$ due to lower infant mortality rates (from $46\text{ years}$ in $1900$ to $76.7\text{ years}$ in $2000$) and medical advancements.
