Open format questions ask for some written detail, but has no determined set of responses.
What are closed format questions?
Closed format questions are short questions or statements followed by a number of options.
When writing questions, from where should you obtain ideas?
Use ideas that appear in the theoretical literature, recruit experts in the area to suggest items and input form colleagues.
When considering clarity within questions, what is important to do?
Remove ambiguity.
What is the problem with leading questions?
The respondent is led in a particular direction by potentially excusing the behaviour.
What is an example of a response format?
Dichotomous scales (yes/no, true/false)
Name some response formats.
Dichotomous scales (yes/no, true/false), frequency of behaviour, strongly agree – strongly disagree, and numerical scales
What is an example of an instruction?
Please answer each question by putting a circle around the ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ following the question. There are no right or wrong answers, and no trick questions. Work quickly, and do not think too long about the exact meaning of the questions.
