Conclusion Validity
The degree to which conclusions about relationships in research data are reasonable.
Internal Validity
Concerns whether a relationship is causal based on the data.
Threats to Conclusion Validity
Factors leading to incorrect conclusions about relationships, such as false positives and false negatives.
Statistical Power
The odds of finding a relationship when one actually exists.
Type I Error
False positive; incorrectly rejecting a true null hypothesis.
Type II Error
False negative; failing to reject a false null hypothesis.
p-value
The probability of obtaining a sample result if the null hypothesis is true.
Descriptive Statistics
Summarize and describe the main features of a data set.
Central Tendency
The central or typical value in a dataset; includes mean, median, and mode.
Dispersion
The spread of values around the central tendency, measured by range and standard deviation.
Correlation
A single number that describes the strength and direction of the relationship between two variables.
Null Hypothesis
A hypothesis that assumes no relationship or difference exists.
Confidence Level
The probability that a statistical result is reliable; typically expressed as 1-α.
Inferential Statistics
Statistics that allow conclusions to extend beyond immediate data to the population.
Qualitative Data Analysis
The process of examining non-numeric data to identify themes and patterns.
Coding in Qualitative Research
Identifying themes across qualitative data by analyzing transcripts.
