Reverberation
The persistence of sound after the original sound is produced, resulting from repeated reflections.
Dynamic Range
The ratio of the loudest undistorted sound to the quietest sound a system can handle without noise.
Frequency Spectrum
The representation of the frequency components of a signal, typically analyzed using Fourier transform.
Fourier Transform
A mathematical transform used to convert a time-domain signal into its frequency-domain representation.
ADC and DAC
Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) are processes that allow digital audio processing.
Aliasing
The distortion that occurs when a signal is sampled at a rate lower than twice its highest frequency component.
Spectrogram
A visual representation of the spectrum of frequencies in a sound signal as they vary with time.
Sonic Waves
Mechanical waves that carry sound through various mediums like air, water, and solids.
Non-Destructive Editing
A form of audio editing where the original sound is preserved during the editing process.
Convolution Reverb
A type of reverb that uses the impulse response of a space to simulate how sound would reverberate in that environment.
Musique Concrète
An avant-garde music genre that utilizes recorded sounds from the environment as compositional material.
Plunderphonics
A genre of music involving the use of recognizable music quotes or sound from existing recordings.
Impulse Response
A recording that captures the reverberation characteristics of a space when a brief sound is played.
