Drainage system

All the piping within public/private premises which conveys sewage, rainwater, or other liquid wastes to a point of disposal

Sanitary Drainage and Vent Piping

Installed by the plumber to remove wastewater and waterborne wastes from plumbing fixtures and appliances, and to provide air circulation within the drainage piping

Stack

General term used for any vertical line of soil, waste, or vent piping

Soil pipe

Conveys discharge containing fecal matter to building drain/building sewer

Soil stack

Conveys discharge of water closets to building drain/building sewer

Waste pipe

Smaller than soil pipe and conveys only liquid waste free of fecal matter

Branch

Any part of the piping system other than the main, riser, or stack

Building drain

Also called house drain; part of the lowest horizontal piping of a plumbing system which receives the discharge from soil, waste, and other drainage pipes inside a building and conveys it to the building sewer/house sewer

Sewage

Any liquid waste containing animal or vegetable matter in suspension or solution

Drainage fittings

Special type of fitting/fittings used in the drainage system

Deadend

Terminating at a developed length of 2 feet or more by means of a plug, cap, or other closed fitting

Drain

Any pipe that carries wastewater or waterborne wastes in a building drainage system

Trap

Lowest portion of the inside top surface of the channel through the trap

Crown weir

Highest point of the bottom surface of the crown
