What is the habitat of/for a Ruffed Grouse?

Young (less than 20 years) deciduous forests-thick brushy areas with high stem densities for cover and berry production. Small openings for insects and green vegetation. Older (less than 40 years) forests-tree buds and acorns. Around 40 acres, high interspersion (a diverse mixture of habitats, may be at the individual home range level or landscape level) of habitats in a relatively small area.

They are omnivorous birds adapted to feeding on the forest floor and in trees, they ground nest and roost, and they are preyed upon by forest birds of prey and mammalian predators.
