Etchant ?
Critical for enamel and dentin in the cavity prep for good chemical bond.
Glass Ionomer used as a base?
Good adhesion to enamel and dentin, release fluoride and has bonding strengths.
Zinc-oxide-eugenol type 1used as a base?
Sedative, insulating helps with irrated pulp. CANT USE UNDER GLASS IONOMER AND COMPOSTIE.
Zinc phosphate type 2 used as a base?
Good base for it thermal insulation qualities and can be used under polycarboxylate, ionomer and it can irrate the pulp.
Trituration
Means mixing dental alloy with mercury.
Amalgamation
Actual chemical reaction that occurs between the alloy and mercury.
Alloy
Combination between alloy and mercury.
Polycarboxylate used as a base?
Has elastic properties and contains fluoride and can be put under any restoration. Also proactive and insulating.
IRM used as a base?
last for 6-12 months and is temp. Also has a sedative base.
Sedative base ?
Help with soothing the pulp for decay that is irrating the pulp.
Insulating base?
Placed in deep cavity preps to protect the tooth from thermal shock.
Protective base?
Placed before the restoration is place to protect the pulp.
Primer?
Can also be know as desensitizer. Placed under restorative material.
Fluoride varnish?
Release fluoride on enamel, root structure and the dentin surfaces.
Varnish?
Organic solvent, seals dentin tubules and reduces microleakage.
Micro- mechanical?
Retention between the tooth structure and the restoration.
Three things dental bases can do for the tooth?
1. protective base
2. insulating base
3. sedative base
Calcium Hydroxide?
Used as a base/ liner, promotes secondary dentin.
Smear layer?
Very thin layer of debris on newly prepared dentin.
Crown matrix former?
Plastic form that is shaped as a crown. You put prepared cement in the crown former.
Provisional?
temporary cement until the permant restoration is ready to be cemented.
Permant Polycarboxylate?
Cement stainless steel crowns, and ortho bands.
ZOE TYPE 2 (perm)
Type one isn't strong enough. Type two is strong enough to use for perm cementation.
Zinc phosphate type 1 (perm)
Used to cement crowns, bridges, onlay, inlays. type two is used as a base.
Glass ionomer type 1?
Contains fluoride , thin film thickness and is used to cement crowns.
Glass ionomer type 2?
Used for class 5 decay, pedo and releases fluoride.
Glass ionomer type 3?
Used as a base/ liner and contains fluoride.
Glass ionomer type 4?
Used for pits and fissures.
Glass ionomer type 6?
Used for a core buildup.
Resin temp cement for temp crowns?
Presents high strength, excellent retention and also easy to clean up.
Polycarboxylate temp cement for temp crown?
To replace the eugenol and has greater retention compared to ZOE.
ZOE temp cement ?
Commonly used, good for sensitive teeth because it a sedative qualities.
What are three temp cements for a temp crown?
1. ZOE
2. Polycarboxylate
3. Resin
Performed crowns ?
Made from polycarboxlate /polymer. There is no impression needed before hand.
Custom provisional crown?
made from Acrylic / composite. This needs a pre impression before hand.
The space between a tooth shouldn't be more than a _ mm apart?
0.5mm
Stainless steel crowns?
Aluminum crown, high durability. Used when primary teeth are involved.
Polycarboxlate crown?
Used for anterior teeth and they come in many different shapes and sizes.
Performed polymer crown?
Polymer shell filled with composite resin and places on the prepped tooth.
Custom provisional?
What we make in office. You take an impression first then you can make your temp crown out of the impressions.
Tooth whitening?
Known as vital bleaching.
Indication for tooth whitening?
Extrinsic stains, aged teeth, instrinsic stains.
In- office treatment?
Accomplished by the dentist in one hour. Place dental dam, place whitening on facial surface, and use a light of laser source.
At- home treatment tooth whitening?
Custom fitted trays made by the dental office. They want you to use product for two weeks straight.
Three over the counter tooth whitening products?
1. brush on whitening
2. whitening strips
3. trays with bleach gels
Brush- on whitening?
Paint peroxide on the facial surfaces of the tooth and isn't very effective.
Whitening strips?
Thin and flexible, place strips on teeth and results in 7-10 days.
Trays with bleach gel?
Comes in a kit. You place mouth pieces in boiling water try in and make your arch impression then once its cooled place whitening product in trays.
If the Pt. abuses teeth whitening?
Thermal hypersensitivity which mean super sensitive to hot and cold. Tissue can also get irritated makes your gums inflamed.
