Plants
Living things that grow in soil and give us many helpful products such as food, wood, and medicine.
Uses of Plants
The many ways plants help us—by giving food, medicine, wood, perfume, rubber, clothes, shade, oxygen, and more.
Food (from plants)
Fruits, vegetables, grains, pulses, spices, and oils that we eat and that all come from plants.
Oxygen
The gas plants release into the air that people and animals need to breathe.
Shade and Shelter
Protection plants give to animals, birds, and people from sun and rain.
Soil Conservation
Roots of plants hold soil together and help stop soil from washing or blowing away.
Medicinal Plants
Special plants used to make medicines, such as aloe vera, tulsi (basil), neem, and eucalyptus.
Aloe Vera
A medicinal plant with thick leaves whose gel is used to soothe skin.
Tulsi (Basil)
A fragrant herb used in medicines and teas to help with colds and coughs.
Neem
A bitter plant whose leaves are used to treat skin problems and keep insects away.
Eucalyptus
A tall tree whose leaves give oil used for cough drops and chest rubs.
Perfume
Nice-smelling liquid made from plant parts like flowers, leaves, or oils.
Rubber Plant
A tree whose sap is turned into rubber for tyres, gloves, balloons, and bands.
Latex
The milky fluid from a rubber tree that is the main source of natural rubber.
Wood
Hard plant material used to make furniture, toys, paper, and firewood.
Cotton Plant
A plant that gives soft fibers spun into thread and woven into clothes.
Palm Tree
A tree whose leaves, wood, and fibers can be used to build houses and make many products.
