Artificial vagina (black tube) and sleeve (denim): collecting semen from bulls for AI

Horn Tube: removing small horns or “scurs” (tips of small horns attached to hide but not the skull)

Electric Dehorner: removing horns (burns them off)

CIDR (white “Y”) & CIDR inserter (orange tool): synchronization of estrus (Controlled Intravaginal Drug Release)

KAMAR heat detection patch: detection of estrus (white-not in estrus, red-in estrus, was mounted by another cow)

A.I. rod or gun: deposition of semen

Marking Crayon: temporary identification

Vacutainer (tube) & Holder: blood sampling

Balling Gun: oral administration of medications

Emasculator (bloodless): castration (crushes spermatic cord)

Esophageal Feeder: feeding baby calves

Magnet (stripped) & Magnet Tube: treat hardware’s disease (cattle often eat metal bits while grazing, magnet binds it in the rumen so it will not poke through stomach)

Pelvimeter: measuring pelvic area in heifers (used as a genetic tool)

Implant Gun: administer medications under the skin or in the ear

Scrotal Knife: castration

Scrotal Tape: measuring scrotal circumference of bulls

Stomach pump or oiler: oral administration of medication (a tube is attached to the nozzle under the pump and threaded down the animal’s esophagus; the end opposite the pump is attached to the container w the medicine) for large volumes

Trocar (sharp end) & cannula (hollow tube): treat bloat (sharp end placed in the tube and jabbed through the side of the animal into the rumen, which lets excess gas out)

Tattooer & Tattoo ink: permanent ID (tattoo on inside of ear)

Dehorner (Barnes): removing horns on adult cattle

Curry comb: grooming cattle

Emasculator (White’s Improved): castration

Ear Tagger: temporary ID

Bander or Elastrator: castration (bloodless- the rubber band is placed above the testicles and prevents blood flow to them. Testicles shrivel up)

Palpation Sleeve: assisting with calving; artificial insemination; and pregnancy diagnosis

Neck Chain: temporary ID

Nose Lead or Twitch: leading/controlling bulls

Chin Ball Marker: ID of cows in estrus (positioned under the chin of the bull; filled with paint; bull mounts to breed; paints the cow’s tail head when slides off)

Milk Claw: milking dairy cattle
