Posteroanterior (PA) Projection
projection of CR from posterior (back) to anterior (front)

Anteroposterior (AP) Projection
projection of CR from anterior (front) to posterior (back)

AP Oblique Projection
projection of upper/lower limb that is rotated
not a true AP projection, needs a qualifying term to indicate which way it is rotated such as medial or lateral rotation
in picture it is a APO projection - medial rotation (from AP)

PA Oblique Projection
projection of upper/lower limb with lateral rotation (from PA)
must also need qualifying term to indicated which way it’s rotated
CR enters posterior surface + exits anterior surface

Mediolateral Projection
lateral projection described by path of CR
the medial/lateral sides are determined w patient in anatomic position
CR enters the medial aspect + exits lateral aspect

Lateromedial Projection
lateral projection is described by path of CR
medial/lateral sides are determined w patient in anatomic position
CR enters the lateral aspect + exits the medial aspect

Supine Position
lying on back, facing upward

Prone Position
lying on abdomen, facing downward

Erect Position
upright position, stand/sit erect
specifically erect R lateral position

Recumbent Position
lying down in any position (prone, supine, on side)
dorsal recumbent = lying on back (supine)
ventral recumbent = lying face down (prone)
lateral recumbent = lying on side (R/L lateral)
specifically recumbent L lateral position

Trendelenburg Position
recumbent position w body titled head LOWER than feet

Reverse Trendelenburg Position
recumbent position w body tilted w head HIGHER than feet

Left Lateral Recumbent Position (for enma tip insertion)
recumbent oblique position w patient lying on left anterior side, right knee + thigh flexed + left arm extended down behind the back

Lithotomy Position
recumbent (supine) w knees + hips flexed and thighs abducted + rotated externally, supported by ankle supports
position seen frequently in surgical suite for certain urinary studies

Lateral Position
side view described by side of body closest to IR or body part from which CR exits
erect R lateral

Oblique Position
refers to angled position in which nether the sagittal or coronal body plane is perpendicular or at a right angle to IR

LPO Position
left posterior aspect of body is closest to IR
CR exits from left?

RPO Position
right posterior aspect of body closest to IR

RAO Position
oblique position which right anterior aspect closer to IR, can be erect or recumbent general body positions
specifically a recumbent RAO position

LAO Position
oblique position which left anterior aspect closer to IR, can be erect/recumbent general body positions

Decubitus Position

Right/Left Lateral Decubitus Position - AP/PA Projection
Dorsal Decubitus Position - L/R Lateral
Ventral Decubitus Position - R/L Lateral
Axial Projection
Superoinferior and Inferosuperior Axial Projection
