MARTHA
Tha's walked straight into the lion's den. He's a big lad to cry like that, but he'll scream just to fright us when he's in a passion. Tha' must have bewitched him.
Do you think he will die?
MARTHA
Mother says there's no reason why any child should live that gets no fresh air and doesn't do nothing but lie on his back and take medicine.
I think he's a very spoiled boy.
ACTOR 2
It was a gloomy winter, and Mary went every day to Colin's room to tell him all about Rajahs and magic and the garden behind the walls.
Well, not all about the garden.
ROBIN
You still haven't told him you found the door?
No, I don't dare. I can't bear the thought of that beastly boy in my garden, tearing open the door and trampling the vines. I don't trust him not to hurt it. I've been so worried, cooped up in this house with him. It's been ages since I've been able to go outside.
ROBIN
Well, Mary, I have good news. What's the first sign of spring?
I don't know.
ROBIN
Seeing a robin. And, ta da! Here I am.
Spring? At last! I'll get my coat.
MARTHA
Mary! Where art tha off to in such a rush? And puttin' on thy own clothes.
It's spring, Martha! I can't wait, I have to get out there and see it.
MARTHA
What about Master Colin? He'll be expecting thee.
Tell him I'm busy!
