Quadratus lumborum (5)
Origin: Pelvis & Iliolumbar l.
Insertion: 12th rib & lumbar vertebrae

Innervation: Subcostal n. (T12 ventral ramus) & L1-L4 ventral rami
Action:
Bilateral – stabilizes the 12th rib; bearing down & expiration
Unilateral – ipsilateral lateral flexion of trunk

Iliacus
Ilium of pelvis

Innervation: Femoral n. (L2-L4) (Ventral rami )

Psoas major
Origin: Lumbar vertebrae
Innervation: Ventral rami (L1- L3)

Iliopsoas
Distally, Iliacus & Psoas major mm. unite to form the iliopsoas m.
Insertion: Femur
Actions: Flexes hip joint Stabilize trunk/spine, hip

In a transverse plane view where are the Psoas major & Quadratus lumborum in relation to each other

Thoracolumbar fascia Location
Connection between back muscles, posterior abdominal wall muscles, and anterolateral abdominal wall muscles

Origin: Pubic bone of pelvis

External Oblique m.
Origin: Ribs
Insertion: Linea alba, pubic and ilium of pelvis
Innervation: Intercostal nn. (ventral rami) & subcostal n. (T12 ventral ramus)

Bilateral: flex trunk, compress and support abdominal viscera & stabilize pelvis
Unilateral: ipsilateral lateral flexion & contralateral rotation of trunk

Internal Oblique m.
Origin: Thoracolumbar fascia, ilium of pelvis
Insertion: Ribs & linea alba

Innervation: Intercostal nn. (ventral rami), subcostal n. (T12 ventral ramus), ilioinguinal n. (L1 ventral ramus), iliohypogastric n. (L1 ventral ramus)

Origin: Ribs, thoracolumbar fascia, ilium of pelvis
Insertion: Linea alba & pubic of pelvis
