point estimate
A single data value, calculated from the sample proportion, that is used to estimate the population proportion.
confidence interval
A range of values (an interval) that provides an estimate of the true value of the population proportion (p).
random variable
A variable, typically represented by x, that has a single numerical value. The variable can randomly take on any value inside the probability distribution. Does not need to be truly random.
continuity correction
sample space
The set of all possible outcomes of a random experiment/trial
simple event
A specific outcome. The most basic possible result of an experiment. Eg: rolling two dice, getting 3 and 5.
margin of error
z-score
A number representing how many standard deviations away from the mean a specific data point is.
central limit theorem
For all samples of the same size n with n>30, the sampling distribution of x̄ can be approximated by a normal distribution with mean μ and standard deviation σ√n.
