Properties/MOA
· Arteriole vasodilation
(↓ afterload)
· Venous vasodilation
(↓ preload)
· “Open up the pipes”
· ↓ workload
· ↓ O2 demand
· Drug of choice for treating acute angina attacks
· CHEST PAIN = hypoxia to myocardium
GOAL = pain free asap
Effects/Adverse Rxn
· Headache
· Hypotension
Reflex tachycardia (due to vasodilation)
Contraindications
Contraindicated w/viagra, and if BP <90
Nursing info
· Check BP (between q dose)
· Can be given IV, sublingual, or patch:
o IV
→ titrate to pain, cont. giving if chest pain
→ 5-10 mcg/min
o Sublingual
→ 3 tablets w/in 15 min
→ tingles under tongue, kept in dark space
o Patch
→ released over 24 hrs
