Health Care
The organized provision of medical services and support aimed at maintaining, improving, restoring, and promoting the health and well-being of individuals and communities.
Health (WHO Definition)
A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
Health Care System
An organized network of people, facilities, equipment, policies, and services working together to improve the health of the population.
Patient-Centered Care
A principle of health care delivery where the patient's needs, preferences, and safety come first.
Preventive Care
Health care services designed to prevent diseases before they occur, such as vaccination, health education, proper nutrition, regular exercise, and annual check-ups.
Curative Care
Health care that provides medical treatment to cure illnesses, including surgery, medicines, hospitalization, and emergency care.
Rehabilitative Care
Care aimed at helping patients regain physical, emotional, and social functioning through physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Collaborative Care
The practice of different health care professionals working together to provide comprehensive patient care.
Ethical and Professional Care
Health care delivery guided by ethical principles such as respect, honesty, confidentiality, compassion, accountability, and professionalism.
Palliative Care
Care focused on improving the comfort and quality of life for patients with serious or terminal illnesses through symptom relief, pain management, and holistic support.
Primary Health Care
First contact care focused on prevention, health promotion, and early treatment at the community level, provided by entities like Barangay Health Centers and Rural Health Units.
Secondary Health Care
Specialized medical care focused on diagnosis, treatment, and management of more serious conditions, offered by facilities such as District and Provincial Hospitals.
Tertiary Health Care
Highly specialized care for complex or rare conditions, featuring advanced diagnostic procedures, complex surgeries, and intensive care provided in Specialty Hospitals and Medical Centers.
Doctor
A health care professional who diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases and injuries.
Nurse
A health care professional who provides and coordinates patient care and supports overall recovery.
Medical Technologist
A health care professional who performs laboratory tests on body fluids to assist in diagnosing and treating diseases.
Pharmacist
A health care professional who ensures the safe and effective use of medications, reviews prescriptions, and dispenses medicines.
Dentist
A health care professional responsible for maintaining oral health and treating dental problems.
Physical Therapist
A health care professional who helps patients restore movement, strength, and physical function through targeted exercise programs and therapeutic techniques.
Nutritionist-Dietitian
A health care professional who promotes proper nutrition, assesses dietary needs, and plans balanced meal programs to prevent and manage diseases.
Radiologic Technologist
A health care professional who operates imaging equipment such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs to produce diagnostic images.
Midwife
A health care professional who provides maternal, newborn, and reproductive care, including assistance during childbirth.
Respiratory Therapist
