Modular
The construction of plants; employing or involving a module or modules as the basis of design or construction.
Phytomers

The thickened vein present in species with pinnate or reticulate venation.
Phloem
The living vascular tissue in plants that transports sugars made during photosynthesis (photosynthates, especially sucrose) to other parts of the plant.
Xylem
The vascular tissue that transports water from roots to shoots along with other nutrients. Some species this is called wood.
Base
The part of the leaf blade where the petiole connects to the blade
Petiole
The stalk that supports the blade and attaches it to the stem (not present in all species)
Petiolate
When a leaf is attached to the stem via a petiole
Sessile
When a leaf is attached to the stem by its base
Simple Leaf
When the leaf has a single, undivided blade. It may be deeply lobed or cleft.
Compound leaf
When the leaf is divided into two or more discrete segments and appears to have multiple blades. (In this case, the leafes are called leaflets.)

Leaflets arranged in pairs along the central stalk.
Palmate
Leaflets radiate from a common point, like the fingers of a hand
