Probability
A numerical measure of the likelihood that a specified event will occur.
Sample Space
A collection of all outcomes for an experiment.
Counting Rule
Allows for the calculation of the number of ways to arrange or select objects.
Permutation
An arrangement of objects in a specific order without repetition.
Combination
A selection of objects without regard to the order of selection.
Mutually Exclusive Events
Events that cannot occur together.
Complementary Events
Events that include all outcomes for an experiment that are not in the event.
Marginal Probability
The probability of a single event without consideration of any other event.
Conditional Probability
The probability that an event will occur given that another event has already occurred.
Independent Events
Two events where the occurrence of one does not affect the probability of the occurrence of the other.
Dependent Events
Events where the occurrence of one affects the probability of the occurrence of the other.
Venn Diagram
A diagram that shows all possible logical relations between different sets.
Tree Diagram
A diagram that represents all possible outcomes of an event.
Addition Rule
The probability of the union of two events A and B.
Intersection of Events
All outcomes that are common to both events.
Simple Event
An event that includes one and only one of the outcomes for an experiment.
Compound Event
An event that includes more than one outcome for an experiment.
