In today’s day and age, employers are increasingly looking for global competency in their workforce.

Slide 2

  • Over 41 Million American jobs depend on international trade and investment. That's nearly one in five U.S. jobs tied to global markets.

Slide 2- “tied to global markets”

  • 97% of U.S. exporting companies are small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), meaning global issues impact businesses of every size

Slide 2- “of every size”

  • Now, The Ross BBA is incredible, but it's largely US-centric. This is a problem when 53% of employers say the ability to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds is "very important," many employers believe college graduates are not well-prepared in this area.

Slide 2- well prepared in this area

  • Study abroad is a great way to gain these competencies, but not everyone can study abroad. Global initiatives (like Winter study abroad) are often inaccessible to low-income students, dual-degree students, and international students due to costs, scheduling conflicts, or visa restrictions.

  • So, for half the class, they graduate with zero experience navigating a real, diverse, global team. That's a huge skill deficit.

Slide 3

Introducing our solution: STRAT 480: Global Venture Exchange.  This course is for every senior who wants that global experience on their resume without a semester in Copenhagen. You will team up with business students at a partnered international school–such as the university of sydney or the london school of economics– to develop one venture simultaneously in two distinct locations: the U.S. and the partnered school’s host country.

Slide 3- and the partnered school’s host country

  • While building this venture through a simulation, students will directly address unique challenges like conflicting business law, consumer profiles, economic differences, and language barriers, which helps fill the global cultural competency gap that employers are noticing.

that employers are noticing

  • Now i’ll pass it off to aileen to talk more about what this entails.
