Trichinella life cycle

Found in pigs (eating undercooked pork), rats, people, dogs, cats, etc.

Adult worms burrow in the mucosa of the small intestine where females produce living young

Juveniles can penetrate blood vessels and are carried throughout the body and can be found in almost any tissue or body space.

If the young penetrate skeletal muscle cells, it becomes an intraceullar parasite

These transform the muscle fibers into nurse cells to nourish the worm
