Oxygen debt
Extra oxygen needed after vigorous exercise to restore ATP and get rid of lactic acid. Breaks down lactic acid, transports into liver, where it’s converted to glucose, and normal ATP happens there
Aerobic vs anaerobic respiration
Oxygen, energy, products, location, glucose breakdown, when used
Breathing rate changes during exercise
Muscles work harder and need more energy → more rate of aerobic respiration→ more oxygen needed → produces more CO2 as a waste product →breathing rate and depth increase → take in more oxygen and remove carbon dioxide more quickly
Pulse rate changes during exercise
Pulse rate increases → oxygen and glucose move to muscles faster → more blood per minute → helps meet higher demands
Fermentation (anaerobic in yeast)
Glucose → ethanol + carbon dioxide
Maggot practical
Maggots in air tight tube, soda lime at opposite end absorbing OC2, gas volume decreases, pressure decreases, liquid in capillary tube moves further
