Cell Life Cycle
The series of stages that a cell goes through from its formation to its division.
Interphase
The period in the cell cycle where the cell grows and performs metabolic processes.
Cell Division
The process by which a cell replicates itself to produce more cells for growth and repair.
DNA Replication
The process occurring at the end of interphase where DNA uncoils and duplicates, serving as a template for mRNA.
Mitosis
The division of the nucleus resulting in the formation of two daughter nuclei.
Cytokinesis
The division of the cytoplasm that begins when mitosis is nearly complete, resulting in two daughter cells.
Prophase
The first stage of mitosis where the nuclear envelope breaks down and DNA condenses into chromosomes.
Metaphase
The stage of mitosis where chromosomes are aligned in the center of the cell on the metaphase plate.
Anaphase
The stage of mitosis where chromosomes are pulled apart toward opposite ends of the cell.
Telophase
The final stage of mitosis where chromosomes uncoil into chromatin and the nuclear envelope reforms around them.
Mitotic Spindle
The structure that directs the movement of chromosomes during mitosis, formed by centrioles migrating to the poles.
Chromatids
The two identical halves of a duplicated chromosome, also known as sister chromatids.
