ANTIBODIES specifically glycoproteins

How many chains do immunoglobulins have?
4 total chains
2 - heavy chains

What is the role of the heavy chains in immunoglobulins?

What is the FAB region of the immunoglobulins (antibody)?
VARIABLE REGION where specific antigens bind

Paratope = actual site of antigen binding LEGO HANDS

The Fc region dictates the BIOLOGICAL FUNTIONS of the antibody

What is the HINGE region of the antibody?
Allows for flexibility of the antibody ONLY FOR IgG, IgD, and IgA

Which immunoglobulins do not have a hinge region?
IgM and IgE

Support solubility, for protection, and ENHANCES FC FUNCTION

Variation that gives each antibody DIFFERENT SPECIFICITY for an antigen
