Intracellular Fluid (ICF)
Fluid located inside the cells, critical for cellular metabolism and containing organelles necessary for cell function.
2/3 of TBW
Composition of ICF
K, Mg, PO43-
Extracellular Fluid (ECF)
Fluid located outside the cells, divided into interstitial fluid and plasma, essential for nutrient and waste transport.
Composition of ECF
Na+, Cl-, Bicarbonate
Interstitial Fluid
The fluid surrounding cells, making up about 3/4 of the ECF.
Plasma
The liquid part of the blood, constituting about 1/4 of the ECF, containing proteins like albumin.
Importance of fluid division
Homoeostasis, Electrochemical gradient, Exchange of materials, Osmotic baalnce
