Information Technology (IT)
A term first used in the early 1980s to indicate the convergence of computer technology and communication technology.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
A term widely used in the 1990s to replace IT, giving a greater emphasis on the communication aspect.
Communication Technology
All equipment and programs used to process and communicate information.
Content Technology
A variety of devices and touchpoints that delivers and markets relevant, meaningful, and timely information.
Computer Technology
The available technology used in solving complex problems.
Data
Known as raw facts and considered the backbone of everything we do.
Information
Data that has been interpreted so that it has meaning for the user.
Globalization
The process by which businesses or other organizations develop international influence or start operating on an international scale.
Knowledge Economy
An economy in which growth is dependent on the quantity, quality, and accessibility of information available rather than on the means of production.
Business Transformation
The use of collaborative work and teamwork through technological innovation to transform businesses.
Digital Transformation
A shift in business practice described as "going paperless."
ICT Architecture
A broad blueprint for acquiring, developing, implementing, and integrating ICT to support business functions and strategies.
ICT Infrastructure
The system that supports and manages all ICT resources and ICT services in an organization.
Computer hardware
The physical equipment used for input, processing, storing, and output activities.
Computer software
The intangible parts of a computer system.
ICT Services
Means for utilizing all ICT resources available within the organization, such as e-learning, e-commerce, and knowledge management.
ICT Management
Explains how available ICT resources and ICT services are arranged, operated, maintained, and managed.
ICT Strategic Planning
Getting a holistic perspective on what an organization aims to achieve and how it will do so.
ICT Operational Plan
A clear set of ICT projects carried out by an organization to support the ICT Strategic Plan.
ICT Acquisition
The process of obtaining ICT infrastructure, which involves navigating a large variety of changing hardware and applications.
