Solution
A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances where one substance, the solvent, dissolves another substance, the solute.
Solvent
The dissolving medium in a solution.
Solutes
Substances that are dissolved in a solvent to form a solution.
Aqueous solutions
Solutions in which water is the dissolving medium or solvent.
Saturated
A solution that contains as much solute as can be dissolved in that solution.
Unsaturated
A solution in which more solute can be dissolved than is already dissolved.
Concentrated
A solution in which a relatively large amount of solute is dissolved.
Dilute
A solution where a relatively small amount of solute is dissolved.
Mass percent
A way to express the concentration of a substance in a mixture or solution, also called weight percent.
Molarity (M)
Moles of solute per volume of solution in liters.
Standard solution
A solution in which the concentration is accurately known.
Dilution
The process of adding solvent to lower the concentration of solute in a solution.
Neutralization reaction
An acid-base reaction.
