Personal vs Informational
If it’s about your life → 1st person (Autobiography, Memoir, Diary, Blog, Editorial, Travel Writing). If it’s about someone else → 3rd person (Biography, News Article, Investigative Journalism, Expository Essay).
Persuasion vs Information
Persuasive formats include Argumentative, Editorial, Speech, Advertisement, Review, Brochure, Leaflet. Informative formats include Expository, News Article, Investigative Journalism, Biography. Both can be represented in Blogs, Podcasts, Emails, Books.
Structure for Essays
Argumentative: Thesis + 3 body + counterclaim + persuade. Discursive: Both sides (2 + 2) + opinion at end. Expository: Intro + 3 body + conclusion (just explain).
News-style Writing Components
Includes Title, Lede (intro hook), Byline (author), Date. News is unbiased, Investigative is deep + 5Ws + H, Editorial is opinionated + 1st person.
Formal Writing Structure
Email: Greeting + Body + Closing. Letter: Address + Signature.
Persuasive Format Overview
Speech: audience greeting + call to action; Advertisement: title + persuade; Brochure/Leaflet: headings + bullets + short sections.
