PTSD
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, a mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event.
Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI)
A structured interview used to assess lifetime trauma exposure and PTSD diagnosis.
Maltreatment
Abuse, neglect, or mistreatment of a child, often leading to trauma.
Interpersonal violence
Violence between individuals, such as physical assaults or domestic violence.
Environmental trauma
Traumas caused by external environmental factors, such as natural disasters or accidents.
Lifetime prevalence
The proportion of individuals in a specified population who have experienced a certain event or condition at any time in their lives.
Cohort
A group of individuals who share a common characteristic or experience, often used in longitudinal studies.
Logistic regression
A statistical method for predicting the outcome of a categorical dependent variable based on one or more predictor variables.
Sexual trauma
Trauma resulting from sexual violence or abuse, including rape or molestation.
Indirect trauma
Trauma that is not directly experienced but rather observed, such as witnessing violence or learning about a traumatic event.
Demographics
Statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it, often used to analyze differences in trauma exposure.
Risk factors
Characteristics or conditions that increase the likelihood of an individual experiencing a negative outcome, such as PTSD.
Child welfare system
A network of agencies and services designed to protect children from abuse and neglect and to ensure their well-being.
Transition-age youth
Young people typically aged 16 to 24 who are in the process of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.
Statistical comparisons
Analyses performed to determine the differences or relationships between various datasets.
Evidence-based treatments
Therapies and interventions that are backed by scientific evidence to be effective.
Out-of-home care
Care provided for children in placements outside of their own homes, such as foster care or group homes.
